Owensboro put the work in for decades to become a music destination, and after officially being declared the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World in November 2021, we are one step closer to being the hot spot for all things Bluegrass.
Being the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World is more than a declaration, or a name. It’s a promise and a mission that can, and will, fuel Owensboro’s growth–both in tourism and economic development.
As the official destination marketing organization for Owensboro-Daviess County, Visit Owensboro has continued to leverage the positive momentum that’s been leading up to this moment, including the opening of the only Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum on the entire planet.
“Bluegrass Music is not only part of our identity, but a key driver of economic growth and revenue,” said Mark Calitri, Visit Owensboro president.
The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Owensboro focused on gathering, preserving, exhibiting and disseminating the artifacts, history, collection and performance art of the global history of bluegrass music through an educational experience.
The Bluegrass Music Academy's Mission is to preserve and grow our bluegrass music heritage and to serve our community. To teach, train, and equip people to play music that not only will benefit their mental and physical health but to serve others in charitable ways for a healthier community.
Kentucky Guitar Works is the first of its kind in Western Kentucky offering a Luthier Apprenticeship Program, workshops, and educational sessions for aspiring instrument builders along with restoration of the traditional instruments of bluegrass music.
OCTC hosts a Professional Studio Artist (PSA) program run by Scott Napier with courses that will prepare individuals for careers as independent studio artists, business owners, designers, performers, and studio technicians.

Rick Faris has just recently moved to Owensboro to nourish his band career and to move his guitar making business, Faris Guitar Co. It is a main pillar of the Bluegrass Music Initiative in Owensboro at the brand new Kentucky Guitar Works (Center for Lutherie) shop in the “Bluegrass Music Capitol of the World”! This puts Rick in the heart of the bluegrass music that has shaped his life and career choices.
Celebrating its 22nd year, ROMP Festival will return to Owensboro’s Yellow Creek Park June 25-28, 2025!
Attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam throughout the weekend, as well as dance the night away at the late night stage, featuring nationally acclaimed acts in the park's rustic Pioneer Village. A full line-up of artist-led instrument workshops takes place throughout the day, as ROMP artists interact with fans and players of all ages and skill levels.
